Our area is rich with stunning countryside and interesting places to visit.

Askrigg is a charming village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, known for its traditional stone buildings and its role in the television drama 'All Creatures Great and Small'. The village makes an ideal base for exploring Wensleydale, with scenic walks, quiet lanes and welcoming pubs right on the doorstep.

There are many nearby attractions to see and visit and we are surrounded by the classic Dales countryside with easy access to some of North Yorkshire’s most popular sights.

Here are a few suggestions for you to enjoy.

Attractions

As seen on “The Dales”, Bolton Castle is rich in history and famously housed Mary Queen of Scots during her imprisonment. Open to the public, the castle offers plenty to see and do and is especially popular with families.

A truly unique attraction and great fun for all the family, filled with surprises, tunnels and follies.

A wonderful place to spend a day at any time of year. The tearoom is excellent, there’s plenty of space for picnics, and the grounds are ideal for pushchairs.

Located in the market town of Hawes, the Wensleydale Creamery is home to the award-winning Cheese Experience and Visitor Centre. Custodians of a 1,000-year cheese-making heritage, master cheesemakers handcraft artisan cheeses using fresh milk from local family farms.

Founded in 1992 by Paul Theakston, Black Sheep Brewery produces a wide range of much-loved cask, keg and bottled beers. Today, the next generation continues the family’s six-generation brewing tradition, creating beers full of passion, quality and character.

An independent family brewery founded in 1827, still owned and run by direct descendants of the founder, Robert Theakston.

Set in a peaceful Dales landscape, the atmospheric ruins of Jervaulx Abbey offer a dramatic yet tranquil visitor experience that has captured the hearts of many.

An authentic heritage railway offering a great-value day out for families, tourists and railway enthusiasts, with plenty to see and do along the route.

Places to visit

This is the highest single drop waterfall in the country and where Kevin Costner Showered in the film Robin Hood Prince of thieves. The force is only 4 miles away and is worth a visit in all seasons!!!

This is the third largest natural lake in Yorkshire. The drive there is very picturesque and you can park by the waterside, to take a stroll or walk around the lake, why not go and visit Raydale preserves while you are over this way, there are some great walks from the tea room.

A great favourite to all visitors. The Falls descend in a series of broad steps along half a mile of the river flanked for most of the way by overhanging woods.
